Hey there! I'm a supplier of Chinese Teak Flooring, and I'm super excited to share with you how to install this amazing flooring in your space. Chinese teak flooring is not only beautiful but also durable, making it a great choice for any home or commercial area. So, let's dive right in!

Pre - installation Preparation

Before you start installing your Chinese teak flooring, there are a few things you need to do. First off, measure the area where you're going to install the flooring. This will help you figure out how much flooring you need to buy. Make sure to measure accurately, including any nooks and crannies. You don't want to end up short on flooring or have too much left over.

Next, check the subfloor. The subfloor should be clean, dry, and level. If it's not level, you might need to use a self - leveling compound to fix it. A uneven subfloor can cause the flooring to buckle or creak over time. Also, remove any debris, dust, or old flooring from the subfloor. You can use a broom and a vacuum cleaner to get it really clean.

It's also a good idea to let the Chinese teak flooring acclimate to the environment where it will be installed. Leave the flooring in the room for at least 48 - 72 hours. This allows the wood to adjust to the temperature and humidity of the space, reducing the risk of warping or shrinking after installation.

Tools You'll Need

To install Chinese teak flooring, you'll need a few tools. Here's a list of the basic ones:

  • Tapping Block and Hammer: These are used to fit the planks tightly together. The tapping block helps protect the edges of the flooring while you're hammering.
  • Jigsaw or Circular Saw: You'll need this to cut the flooring to fit around corners, doorways, and other obstacles. Make sure you have the right blade for cutting wood.
  • Measuring Tape and Pencil: For measuring and marking the flooring before cutting.
  • Pull Bar: This tool is used to pull the last row of planks into place, especially when there's not enough space to use a hammer and tapping block.
  • Floor Nailer or Glue: Depending on the type of installation method you choose, you'll need either a floor nailer to nail the planks to the subfloor or glue to adhere them.

Installation Methods

There are a few different ways to install Chinese teak flooring. Let's take a look at two common methods:

Nail - down Installation

This is a traditional method and is suitable for solid wood flooring, like Solid Chinese Teak Flooring. Here's how you do it:

  1. Start by laying the first row of planks along the longest straight wall in the room. Make sure the tongue side of the plank is facing the wall. Leave a 1/4 - inch expansion gap between the planks and the wall using spacers.
  2. Use the floor nailer to nail the planks to the subfloor. Drive the nails at a 45 - degree angle through the tongue of the plank and into the subfloor. Make sure the nails are long enough to penetrate the subfloor securely.
  3. As you lay each subsequent row, fit the tongue of the new plank into the groove of the previous row. Use the tapping block and hammer to make a tight fit.
  4. When you reach the end of a row, cut the last plank to fit using the jigsaw or circular saw. Measure twice and cut once to ensure a proper fit.
  5. Continue laying rows until you cover the entire floor area. For the last row, use the pull bar to pull the planks into place and then nail them down.

Glue - down Installation

Glue - down installation is another option, especially for Bronze Teak Flooring. Here's the process:

  1. Apply a thin, even layer of floor adhesive to the subfloor using a trowel. Make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for the adhesive.
  2. Place the first plank on the glued subfloor, starting from one corner of the room. Press it down firmly to ensure good contact with the adhesive.
  3. Fit the next plank into the groove of the first one and press it down as well. Use a roller to roll over the planks to remove any air bubbles and ensure a strong bond.
  4. Keep repeating this process, laying row after row of flooring. Make sure to work quickly as the adhesive dries fast.
  5. Trim the edges of the flooring to fit around the perimeter of the room using the saw.

Dealing with Special Situations

Around Doorways

When installing Chinese teak flooring around doorways, you have a few options. You can either cut the planks to fit neatly under the door, or you can install a transition strip. If you choose to cut the planks, measure the width of the doorway and cut the planks accordingly. Make sure the edges are smooth and flush with the rest of the floor. If you use a transition strip, it provides a clean and professional look between different flooring areas.

Corners and Angles

For corners, you'll need to make angled cuts. Use a jigsaw to make these cuts. First, measure the angle of the corner and mark the flooring accordingly. Then, carefully cut along the marked line. It might take a few tries to get the perfect fit, but practice makes perfect.

Finishing Touches

Once you've installed all the Chinese teak flooring, it's time for the finishing touches. Remove all the spacers from the edges of the floor. These spacers were used to create the expansion gap during installation.
You can also install baseboards or quarter - round molding around the perimeter of the room. This not only covers the expansion gap but also gives the floor a finished look. Nail the baseboards to the wall using a nail gun or a hammer and finishing nails.

Finally, clean the floor again to remove any dust or debris from the installation process. You can use a soft - bristled broom and a damp mop to make it shine.
